The city of Tete saw its first disinfection tunnel installed yesterday, as part of the reinforcement of preventative measures against the new coronavirus. The tunnel is located in front of the Mercado 1o De Maio on Avenida 25 de Junho in the Francisco Manyanga neighbourhood, and is available for use by all residents of Tete.
Tete mayor César de Carvalho, who inaugurated the tunnel on Wednesday morning, praised the involvement of the Tete business community for the unconditional support it had given the municipal council in the fight against Covid-19, and in particular its part in providing the facility in question.
The mayor also announced that Tete Municipal Council would install three more tunnels, in the Keachena, Cambinde and Canongola markets.
Carvalho said that security measures were being taken to ensure the new facility was not vandalised, and urged all citizens to comply with the Covid-19 counter-measures enacted by the government.
This inauguration was attended by the District Administrator of Tete, the mayor, municipal councillors and other officials. Those present were invited to pass through the tunnel for disinfection.
