The suspension of fish exports because of Covid-19 has left several fishing companies in Sofala province on the verge of collapse.
Most of the fish was destined for the Asian and European markets, access to which is practically blocked by the pandemic.
Speaking during a visit by Minister of the Sea, Interior Waters and Fisheries, Augusta Maíta, PESCA MOZ administrator Filipe Lobo said fishing companies would be running up losses as long as the situation prevailed.
Minister Maíta said that the government was committed to minimising the impact of the pandemic, and encouraged companies in the industry to turn their attention to the national market.
