Measures to prevent the new coronavirus recommended by the government and civil society organisations are not being implemented by some residents in the city of Nampula.
Dozens of students have swapped quarantine for going to the shops, and VOA saw children in Carrupeia and Muatala playing in the street with complete disregard for any preventive measures.
Residents interviewed by VOA say they are aware of the impact of the disease, but it is difficult to keep children at home without the means to continue classes or otherwise keep them entertained.
There are as yet no confirmed cases in the capital of Mozambique’s most populous province – whose more-than five million inhabitants have meanwhile been hit by several cholera outbreaks.
