U.S. commits $160 million in HIV, and TB support for Mozambique

Mozambique on Sunday (December 3) reported the death of another patient from Covid-19, bringing the respiratory disease death total in the country to 169, on the same day that 341 new cases were also announced by the Ministry of Health.
The latest victim was a 52-year-old Mozambican man who died of Covid-19 on Sunday while hospitalized in the city of Maputo, according to the data update statement sent to the media.
The Ministry of Health also reported yesterday that a further 341 new infections had been confirmed in Mozambique, the highest daily number ever announced, bringing to 19,309 the cumulative total of infections, of which 18,993 cases are locally transmitted and 316 imported.
Mozambique has 16,765 people considered fully recovered – 86% of the total number infected. With a total of 1,722, the city of Maputo has the highest number of active cases.
Since the announcement of the first case of infection with the new coronavirus on March 22 of last year, Mozambique has cumulatively tested 276,077 suspected cases.
The Covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 1,835,824 deaths among the more than 84.5 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by French press agency AFP.
