Mozambique recorded another 26 cases of infection with the new coronavirus, bringing the cumulative total to 788, with five deaths and 221 recovered, health officials announced on Thursday (June 25).
From Wednesday (June 24) to Thursday (June 25) 758 new samples were tested in the country, with 550 tests performed in the public sector and 208 in the private sector,
Most of the 26 cases reported yesterday, 16, were detected in the city of Nampula, in the north of the country, provincial capital of the most populous region of the country.
Another seven cases come from the city of Pemba, capital of the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
There were also two new cases in the city of Matola, outskirts of Maputo, and one in Maputo City.
One of the newly diagnosed cases is of Malawian nationality and the remaining 25 are Mozambicans. According to the Ministry of Health protocol, all infected people are in isolation at home and the process of mapping their contacts is currently underway.
In the data update carried out on Thursday, it was mentioned that there is a cumulative of 21 hospitalised patients due to COVID-19.
There are also 10 individuals hospitalised due to various chronic pathologies which increase the risk of progressing to severe forms of the disease.
By Thursday, the 561 active cases in Mozambique were mostly in the northern provinces of Nampula (227) and Cabo Delgado (131).
As for the rest of the provinces, there were 78 active cases in the city of Maputo, 52 in Maputo province, 15 in Manica, 14 in Tete, 13 in Inhambane, 12 in Niassa, nine in Sofala, eight in Zambezia and two in Gaza.
