Mozambique: More than 50,000 in Mabalane and Chibuto still consuming unsafe water

Mozambique yesterday reported an additional 191 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, bringing the total to 13,768 positive cases with just 99 deaths, the Ministry of Health has announced.
Of the newly diagnosed cases announced on Sunday, 180 are Mozambicans and ten are foreigners, with one case of unknown nationality.
Mozambique now has an accumulated total of 13,768 positive Covid-19 cases, of which 13,464 cases have been deemed locally transmitted and 304 imported.
The country also has 24 new cases reported as recovered, increasing the total to 11,605 (84% of cases), with a total of 511 people still hospitalised.
The city of Maputo has the highest number of active infections, a total of 1,641, followed by Cabo Delgado province with 169, and the remaining provinces in the country with less than 100 active cases between them.
Since the announcement of the first infection on March 22, the country has tested a total of 200,946 suspected cases.
The Covid-19 pandemic has now claimed more than 1.2 million lives among the more than 49.3 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French AFP press agency.
