Mozambique: 2/3 of health units without drinking water in one northern district

Mozambique yesterday reported 56 new Covid-19 infection cases, and 64 patients accounted recovered, the authorities announced, bringing the cumulative total of those infected to 1,491, with 10 deaths and 472 recovered.
By Sunday (July 19), Mozambique had tested a total of 46,556 suspected cases, 1,367 in the previous 24 hours.
Of the new cases reported yesterday, eight were registered in Maputo city, 38 in Maputo province, and two each in Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Zambézia, Tete and Manica provinces.
“The cases reported today are in isolation at home” and “the process of mapping their contacts is ongoing”, the health authorities’ statement reads.
In Mozambique overall, the northern Cabo Delgado (233) and Nampula (221) provinces continue to register most cases, but have stopped concentrating them, as was happening, now accounting for 45% of the total.
These two provinces are followed by Maputo province (186) and Maputo city (174), with the remaining seven provinces registering fewer than 50 cases each.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 601,000 lives and infected more than 14.3 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French AFP press agency.
Africa has seen 14,937 confirmed deaths among more than 700,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the continent’s latest pandemic statistics.
