Mozambique. NGO files complaint over alleged 'massacre' of prisoners - Watch
Covid-19 claimed two more lives in Mozambique between Saturday and Sunday, the victims from Zambézia province and Maputo city. The country has now registered 130 deaths caused by the disease, while boasting a 87% recovery rate.
A 57-year-old woman who had been admitted to a hospital in Zambezia province and, on Sunday, a 40-year-old female patient in Maputo city succumbed to the disease, their clinical status having worsened in the hospital units where they were being treated, the Ministry of Health (MISAU) announced.
MISAU also announced a total of 107 new Covid-19 cases, the majority from the city of Maputo, which registered 17 new cases this Sunday alone. This brings the cumulative total to 15,613 cases, all of which are local transmissions.
However, on Saturday another 46 people were declared symptom-free, bringing to 13,677 the cumulative number of recoveries, the equivalent to 87.8% of all cases.
Mozambique so far has a cumulative total of 63 inpatients, of whom 45 are currently in Covid-19 centres and other hospital units. Maputo accounts for the largest share of hospitalised cases.
Inpatients routinely suffer from various chronic pathologies, the most frequent of which are arterial hypertension and diabetes.
Mozambique has to date screened 3,241,956 people for Covid-19 at different entry points. Of these, 57,585 were subjected to home quarantine, with 8,012 people still observing these measures and 3,395 positive case contacts being followed up.
