Mozambique advocates greater Euro-African commitment to conflict prevention and counter-terrorism

The 250 deputies of Mozambique’s Assembly of the Republic will donate three days’ wages to support actions to combat Covid-19 in the country, the house speaker, Esperança Bias, announced this Wednesday.
Bias announced the decision during the plenary meeting of parliament debating the proposals of the Economic and Social Plan (PES) and the State Budget (OE) this Wednesday and Thursday.
The president of parliament did not give details of exactly how the deputies’ donation would be facilitated.

The lowest monthly salary in the Mozambican parliament is 65,000 meticais (€887 euros) and the highest exceeds 100,000 meticais (€1,364).
Also yesterday in parliament, the chief whip of the Mozambican Liberation Front (Frelimo) bench announced a donation of 650,000 meticais (€8,871 euros) to help fight Covid-19.
Frelimo controls 184 seats in parliament, followed by the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo), the main opposition party, with 60 seats, and by the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), with six deputies.
The official number of coronavirus infections in Mozambique rose from 28 to 29 on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health announced.
