On Wednesday, Mozal (Mozambique Aluminium) offered the Mozambican Ministry of Health more than 10 million meticais and 10,000 litres of alcohol in support of government actions to prevent and combat the spread of Covid-19 and to strengthen testing capacity.
According to Gil Cumaio, Director of Corporate Affairs at Mozal, the gesture comes in response to the challenges facing the health sector, not least because the number of positive cases continues to rise.
“This donation is part of our action to help prevent and respond to COVID-19 at national level,” Cumaio said, adding: “Mozal remains committed to the safety, health and well-being of the communities where it operates – a correct and important cause for us.”
The Chinese Embassy and Cervejas de Moçambique (CDM) have followed suit, the Chinese embassy offering 370,000 protective masks and 31,000 other PPE (personal protective equipment) items including gloves, protective glasses and disposable shoe covers, while CDM delivered 20,000 visors.
The charge d’affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Mozambique, Zhang Xiangyan, says that the donation marks a critical time and expresses the solidarity of the Chinese government and people towards the Mozambican, and the fraternity that exists between the two countries.
CDM reiterated that providing health professionals with essential protective gear was among its top priorities.
