The National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) of Mozambique stopped 16 wedding parties in February for violating Covid-19 restrictions, the institution’s monthly balance sheet reveals.
Despite being forbidden, marriage festivities continue to take place clandestinely throughout the country, especially in Maputo city and province and in Sofala, in the centre of the country.
The inspectorate also reports cases of the illegal sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the capital and suburbs, without providing specifics.
The violations of restrictions imposed to contain the spread of the new coronavirus were detected by INAE in the scope of regular inspections which, in February, covered 2,941 economic agents country-wide.
A total of 87 establishments were suspended, and 130 economic agents were notified for various infractions other than those related to Covid-19.
Mozambique had by Wednesday recorded 668 Covid-19 deaths from its 60.395 cases of infection, 44.002 of which are accounted fully recovered ( of which 1.205 were reported on Wednesday). This means that active cases in the country now stand at 15.721.
