It was through the voice of the spokesman for the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers (cabinet), held this Tuesday, that there came the strangest response that could be expected at a time when the country is discussing measures adopted by the government to guarantee a “safe” return to school.
“Nobody spoke about the reopening of classes, not even in this session, let alone the Ministry of Education,” Filimão Suaze said when asked about the possibility of relaxing preventative measures and resuming classes.
At Tuesday’s press conference, Swaze confined himself to reproducing the speech by the spokesman for the Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH), Gina Guibunda, who said that the sector was simply trying to create conditions so that, in case restrictions are lifted, students may return to classes safely.
Suaze added that President Nyusi would address the nation before the 29th of June, when the State of Emergency ends. But in the meantime, he said, the executive remained concerned about the spread of the disease, and made a negative assessment regarding non-compliance with state of emergency measures.

“People are not following the rules properly, even though the state, religious and community institutions are giving a positive lead in fighting the pandemic,” he said.
