Passengers in Maputo province are accusing carriers on the Malhampswene – Tenga, Malhampswene – Pessene route of failing to comply with Covid-19 preventative measures, and say that minibuses are carrying more than the mandated number of passengers-
The number of Covid-19 cases in the country keeps going up – and so does the risky behaviour of carriers.
Carlos lives in Tenga and is concerned about transport and the challenge the coronavirus posers for transport users, especially during peak hours.
Some, apparently, don’t care about capacity, while others ignore measures such as wearing masks claiming they fell suffocated.
Carriers acknowledge there are issues, but say the measures cost them money and should be relaxed for 15-seater ‘chapas’.
In the meantime, they continue to risk carrying more than the recommended three passengers per bench seat.
