Nearly three hundred and forty South African mine workers are stranded in Gaza following the closure of the borders due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Provincial Director of Labour Sérgio Humbane says that the workers were on vacation when the lock-down was imposed in South Africa, and that the migration services in the province were working to renew the miners’ passports and facilitate their return to South Africa as soon as conditions permitted.
Humbane said that Teba, the company responsible for recruiting Mozambicans for work in South Africa, would guarantee the jobs and salaries of fellow Mozambicans working in the neighbouring country.
