Mozambique: "We give victims what they need"

The Chinese government has donated a considerable amount of Covid-19 prevention material to the Military Hospital of Maputo, as a gesture of cooperation between the two countries.
“We hope that our efforts will contribute to the improvement of the Armed Forces of Defence of Mozambique healthcare system and reinforce its capacity to protect against Covid-19,” China’s military attaché Brigadier Zhou Zhe said on Thursday at the handover ceremony.
The Ministry of Defence of China donated 13 tons of anti-Covid-19 material, including gloves, masks and thermometers, and about 60 boxes of other equipment to improve the quality of care at the Military Hospital.
“Military health will be greatly enhanced by the arrival of this equipment. The material will improve service to users, not only at the hospital level, but of all military personnel and their dependents,” director of the Military Hospital of Maputo Armando Melo said.
China made the donation within the scope of the cooperation between the two countries, mainly in the area of defence, aiming to guarantee the health of the Mozambican military and enable them to “improve their performance in the sacred duty of protecting national security and stability of the country” .
“We really believe, that after the storm, only with solidarity and cooperation we will be able to overcome the black cloud of the pandemic,” Brigadier Zhou Zhe said, adding that the Armed Forces of China would continue to work with Mozambique to increase cooperation in the protection and control of disease.
“I am confident that, by joining together, we can win the war against this invisible enemy,” he concluded.
The Mozambican Ministry of Defence thanked China for its support, saying that “it will contribute to the effective response to the prevention, screening and treatment of Covid-19 patients in Mozambique”.
“This material will revitalise various sectors of the unit, making it efficient in the diagnosis and treatment of various pathologies,” said Casimiro Augusto, permanent secretary of the Ministry.
By Thursday (June 17), Mozambique had a cumulative 651 positive cases of Covid-19, with four deaths registered and 169 recoveries.
In the fight against the pandemic, the country has been in a state of emergency since April 1st, twice extended until June 29th.
Various restrictions are in place. All schools are closed, as are entertainment and leisure facilities. All types of events and mass gatherings are prohibited, and the population is recommended to stay at home if they do not have essential matters to attend to.
