Mozambique Number of confirmed mpox cases rises to 13

The Mozambican health authorities on Thursday reported 40 new cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, but no new deaths.
Thus the total death toll from Covid-19 in Mozambique remains 840, while the number of Covid-19 cases diagnosed in the country has risen to 71,279.
According to a Thursday Ministry of Health press release, since the start of the pandemic, 564,481 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 1,175 of them in the previous 24 hours. Of the samples tested, almost half (528, or 44.9 per cent) were from Maputo city. There were also 152 from Zambezia, 129 from Inhambane, 108 from Nampula, 72 from Tete, 58 from Sofala, 53 from Manica, 44 from Maputo province, 25 from Cabo Delgado, and six from Niassa. No tests were reported from Gaza.
1,135 of the tests yielded negative results, while 40 people tested positive for the coronavirus. 50 per cent of the positive cases were from the far south – 16 in Maputo city and four in Maputo province. There were also eight cases from Nampula, six from Inhambane, four from Tete, one from Zambezia and one from Manica. No positive cases were detected in the other four provinces.
The positivity rate (the proportion of those tested found to be infected) for Thursday was 3.4 per cent. This compares with rates of 5.6 per cent on Wednesday, 2.5 per cent on Tuesday, 7.6 per cent on Monday, three per cent on Sunday, and 4.1 per cent on Saturday.
The Ministry release reported that, over the same 24 hour period, two new patients were hospitalised in the Covid-19 treatment centres, one in Maputo and one in Nampula. The number of people under medical care in the Covid-19 wards rose from 16 on Wednesday to 18 on Thursday. 15 of these patients (83.3 per cent) were in Maputo, two were in Nampula, and one was in Matola.
The Ministry said that 31 people on Thursday were declared fully recovered from Covid-19 (19 in Maputo province, seven in Inhambane and five in Sofala). This brings the total number of recoveries to 69,740, which is 97.8 per cent of all those diagnosed with Covid-19 in Mozambique.
The number of active Covid-19 cases rose from 686 on Wednesday to 695 on Thursday. The geographical distribution of these cases was as follows: Maputo city, 344 (49.5 per cent of the total); Tete, 127; Maputo province, 91; Manica, 44; Inhambane, 25; Nampula, 21; Sofala, 14; Niassa, 14; Cabo Delgado, six; Zambezia, six; and Gaza, three.
