The Judicial Court of the Province of Cabo Delgado yesterday began the trial of another criminal case related to the armed attacks carried out by insurgents in the north of the province since October 2017.
For the first day of the trial of case 99/2018, the Judicial Court of the Province of Cabo Delgado summoned 15 of the 34 defendants, seven of them Mozambicans and eight Tanzanians.
The session began with a reading of the Public Prosecutor’s Office indictment, which alleged the accused are the perpetrators of the armed attacks in Cabo Delgado, after which the judge continued with the defendants’ first hearing session.
During interrogation, in addition to denying their involvement in the crimes, the defendants replied that they had never fired a firearm, did not kill people and did not know Al Shabab or any other terrorist group.
With 34 defendants – 23 Mozambicans and 11 Tanzanians – this is the second criminal case related to the armed attacks in Cabo Delgado brought before the provincial Judicial Court, which this year is expected to try three more related cases.
