Mozambique’s Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, has told parliament that the government needs 24 billion meticais annually for the rehabilitation and paving of roads in the country.
“Around 24 billion meticais per year is needed for road rehabilitation and asphalting, and around 11.7 billion meticais has been allocated,” Mesquita told the Assembly of the Republic on Wednesday.
At current exchange rates, 24 billion meticais is equivalent to around US$376 million.
