The Cotton Association of Mozambique (AAM) and the National Forum of Cotton Producers (FONPA) will meet in April 2017 to establish the final price for the 2017/2018 cotton sales year.
The two institutions predict that the next agricultural campaign may see a harvest of 70,000 tons of cotton.
In the last cotton campaign first grade seed cotton was purchased at 14.5 meticais per kilo and second grade seed cotton at 10.50 meticais.
In the 2015/2016 cotton sales year that is coming to an end, Mozambique expects to reach just over 67,000 tonnes.
In 1972/1973 cotton production reached 144,000 tonnes but these values have been decreasing over the years.
However, the Mozambique Cotton Institute projects cotton production to reach 200,000 tonnes in 2020.
China and Bangladesh remain the largest importers of cotton from Mozambique.
