The Mozambican government has appointed the company CORRE (Correio Expresso de Moçambique) provider of the universal postal service in Mozambique, according to the resolution that Lusa had access to this Wednesday.
In May 2021, after accumulated losses, the Mozambican government abolished the state-owned Correios de Moçambique within the ambit of restructuring the state’s business sector.
The government then announced that the services provided by Correios de Moçambique would be progressively provided by the private sector.
In a decree dated May 24th, the government also changed the Postal Service Licensing regulation, now stating that the Designated Operator “is the public or private operator” appointed “for the provision of reserved postal services and the universal postal service”.
Both decisions came into force immediately, according to documents consulted by Lusa.
On its official page, Correio Expresso de Moçambique states that its shareholders are Correios de Portugal and Empresa Nacional de Correios de Moçambique.
It adds that the company provides collection, processing, transport, distribution of urgent and express documents and goods nationally and internationally, as well as “courier, transport and logistics” services.
