Mozambique on Sunday (August 16) reported another 64 Covid-19 cases , bringing the total to 2,855.
“Of these, 61 cases are individuals of Mozambican nationality and three foreign nationals,” the data update statement released yesterday by the Ministry of Health reads.
The newly diagnosed cases are in the provinces of Maputo (12), Nampula (02), Zambézia (01), Tete (04), Manica (04), Sofala (09), Gaza (06) and Maputo city (26).
Of the cases already registered in Mozambique, 2,654 are locally transmitted and 201 are imported, while 1,163 (40%) people are reported to have recovered. Nineteen deaths have occurred.
Health authorities also indicate that 18 people are hospitalised, suffering from “various pathologies associated with Covid-19”.
Of the active cases in Mozambique, the city of Maputo, the country’s capital, has the highest number, with 655 infections, followed by Maputo province with 339 cases.
Since the announcement of the first case of Covid-19 in Mozambique, on March 22, the country has conducted 77,584 tests of suspected cases, and tracked more than 1.7 million people.
Suspected Covid-19 cases placed under home quarantine number 28,226, and 4,445 continue to be monitored by health authorities.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 766,000 lives and infected more than 21.5 million people in 196 countries and territories worldwide, according to the French AFP press agency.
