The sixth phase of the tree planting initiative in the city of Beira, aimed at restoring trees destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Idai in March 2019, started on Saturday, January 25, and will continue until March 1. This civic initiative, led by the Beira Verde Movement, once again receives strong support from Cornelder de Moçambique (CdM), which has been providing 1,000 saplings annually since the first phase in 2020, totalling 6,000 saplings over the six phases.
In addition to donating the saplings, CdM has contributed logistical support for planting activities, including providing materials for cleaning and planting, as well as mobilizing its employees and their families to participate in the tree planting.
During the previous five phases, from 2020 to 2024, 7,650 trees were planted in the city of Beira. The survival rate of these trees is between 38-40 percent, and the results of this initiative are already visible.
On Saturday, January 25, around 100 volunteers, the majority of whom were linked to CdM, planted trees in the Ponta-Gêa neighbourhood, adding 232 trees to the total, which now stands at 7,882 trees planted by the Beira Verde Movement.
