Consultec will this Friday carry out a public consultation for a Study of Environmental Pre- Feasibility and Definition of Scope (EPDA) of the project to set up a second floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) platform in the Rovuma basin, Cabo Delgado province.
The goal of the consultation is to collate the main concerns and gather suggestions from stakeholders interested and affected by the project, including the community, civil society and government institutions.
The Coral North gas reserves were discovered by the Italian Eni, the delegated operator, and according to ‘Noticias’ (which did not specify the location of the public consultation), the hydrocarbon prospecting and production project will be implemented in Area 4 by the entity, Mozambique Rovuma Venture.
It is estimated that investment in the project, which requires government approval, will amount to US$7 million. Production is expected to start in 2027, that is, before the onshore projects currently suspended due to insecurity in the province.
The Coral North platform will be anchored around 10 kilometres (6.21 miles) north of the Coral Sul platform, which made its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment in November 2022.
