Six computers were stolen from the National Land Transport Institute (INATTER) in Sofala, on Monday afternoon, bringing the issuance of driving licenses there to a halt.
According to INATTER’s Gilberto Mambo, the employees realised the computer equipment was missing when they arrived at their workplace to find the doors already open.
“We arrived in the morning and noticed that the doors were open. Before entering, we saw through one of the windows that some of the computers had been stolen. So we went to report the case to the police in the 1st Squadron,” Mambo said. Staff only entered the premises after the police arrived.
A police search revealed that six computers had been taken, but Mambo said it was unclear whether any documents were also missing, given that some desks were also ransacked.
Police investigations in the vicinity succeeded in recovering four of the computers hidden in the mangroves on the banks of the Chiveve River, close to Cais Manarte street.
A private Soprotecção security company employee who was on duty at the time of the robbery is assisting police at the 1st PRM Police Station in Beira with their enquiries.
