The Renamo guerilla commonly known as “Comandante Macaco” (“Commander Monkey”) has, according to police, been fatally shot during a confrontation between armed Renamo men and Defence and Security Forces.
The incident took place at dawn on October 6 in another attempted raid on a police station, this time in Mussaraua, Mulevala district. This is the second assault in the district and fourth on a police station in Zambezia, all rebutted by the PRM.
According to Zambézia police spokesman Jacinto Felix, when the police came under attack they returned fire, killing Comandante Macaco and putting his 12 comrades to flight. Felix added that the pursuit of the Renamo men was ongoing, but that otherwise, life in the area had returned to normal.
The police reiterated their strongest condemnation of these armed Renamo actions and reaffirmed the defence and security forces’ commitment to responding with force on every occasion.
