The National Elections Commission (CNE) has re-scheduled for September 3 the draw to determine the position of the candidates on the October municipal election ballot papers, the body has announced.
The lottery was initially scheduled for today, but was postponed due to changes in the calendar, the Mozambican Information Agency (AIM) said yesterday
The Mozambican parliament passed a new electoral law in July. Among the changes introduced are the election of the municipal presidents as heads of lists in the municipal assemblies, as opposed to the previous model under which mayors were directly elected in a separate ballot.
The CNE estimates it will spend 3.1 million Euros producing the voting material used in the fifth municipal elections in Mozambique’s 53 municipalities on October 10.
