Closing of Zimpeto wholesale market postponed to Monday – photos and video

Zimpeto Wholesale Market remains open this Thursday, despite being expected to close for a few days. Meanwhile, Xipamanine Market, which was closed for three days, has now been reopened.

Although the majority of Zimpeto vendors are still conducting business, many did not know of the postponement and had already removed their stock and dismantled their stalls.

Stall holders have a lot of merchandise and don’t know where to take it should Zimpeto close today.

Some vendors doubt whether they will be able to sell all their stock by Sunday, as the number of shoppers is down because of the expected closure.

Maputo City Council says the postponement comes in response to vendors’ requests for an extension, and the market will now close on Monday, for three to five days.
