LAM's return to Lisbon awaits approval of Portuguese civil aviation body - report
The City Lodge Hotel Group (CLHG) has opened its 62nd hotel, the City Lodge Hotel Maputo in Mozambique, under the leadership of general manager Gustavo Cardoso. The hotel is ideally located on Rua Para o Palmar, near Avenida Julius Nyerere, and within easy reach of the Costa do Sol beach, city centre, a private hospital, university and various other business, entertainment, shopping and cultural attractions. It is the closest hotel to the Maputo International Airport, at some 6.5km or 12-minute drive away.
This completes CLHG’s initial expansion plan of seven hotels outside of South Africa that began in 2015, with the 148-room City Lodge Hotel Maputo joining the group’s other properties in:
The hotel has 148 rooms, including one suite, and guest rooms feature en suite bathrooms with maxi showers (selected rooms have baths), queen bed or twin beds, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, television with selected DStv channels, tea and coffee making facilities, large electronic safe, fridge, USB ports on either side of the bed, and work desk with lighting and plugs for easy connectivity. The hotel features three boardrooms that seat 12 people, 14 people and 24 people (latter converts into two boardrooms of 12 seats each); #Café restaurant serving full breakfast, lunch and dinner plus alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages; swimming pool; bar; fitness room; free parking; 24-hour reception and check in service; and same day laundry. Three of the rooms are designed to meet the special needs of the physically disabled.
CLHG CEO Andrew Widegger says, “We are excited about growth prospects in Mozambique and our new City Lodge Hotel Maputo will soon be ready to accommodate both business and leisure travellers. The architecture is inspired by the rich history of the city, embracing and evolving local cultural touchpoints. Décor carries a fresh and appealing coastal-inspired design, with a lot of attention to detail. Geometric shapes, muted greens and blues, splashes of sunset red and rust, and interesting artwork ensure that our guests will be comfortable in this contemporary space.”
Maputo is a popular destination with South Africans and the international market. It is within easy access by car via the N4 highway through Mbombela (previously Nelspruit), the Maputo International Airport and the many cruise ships that stop at this fascinating port.
While staying at the City Lodge Hotel Maputo, you can make several visits to any of these top ten listed attractions:
Back in South Africa, construction is progressing well on the exciting “new concept” Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City, north of Johannesburg, due to be completed in November 2020. The 168-room hotel will feature 10 levels and will include a rooftop bar/function area as well as a 100-seater conference facility. It will have 160 well-appointed rooms as well as four suites and four standard studios, meeting rooms, swimming pool and gym.
Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City will be the sixth Courtyard Hotel within the group, complementing one each in Pretoria and Port Elizabeth and three in Johannesburg.
CLHG already has the 149-room City Lodge Hotel Waterfall City in this mixed-use residential, office and commercial area which has established a strong market niche for both business and leisure travellers. Waterfall City is located in the rapidly growing node between Johannesburg and Midrand and includes the Mall of Africa shopping and entertainment complex.
Once the new Courtyard Hotel Waterfall City is operational, the group will have 63 hotels in six countries in East and Southern Africa offering 8,070 rooms.Source: City Lodge Hotel Group / Press Release
