The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Buzi district, Sofala province, have arrested an individual in possession of more than 150 kilograms of cannabis sativa, also known as ‘suruma’.
The 46-year-old detainee is suspected of being a cannabis farmer and a supplier of the drug to the cities of Beira and Dondo, as well as Nhamatanda district.
The arrest resulted from an anonymous tip-off, according to Duílio Mabai, the PRM district commander in Búzi, who added that the cannabis was about to enter the distribution chain.
The suspect has admitted to producing and selling the suruma, saying that he now regrets his actions.
