The cholera outbreak in Niassa province is spreading. After the districts of Lago, Lichinga, Mecanhelas and Sanga, with around 1,500 cases and 13 deaths in four months, new infections have just been confirmed in Chimbunila, Mandimba and Muembe.
Ramos Mboane, provincial director of Health in Niassa, revealed developments in Lichinga yesterday, when the International Organization for Migration (IOM) donated cholera protection and prevention kits in an attempt to halt the spread of the disease.
Visibly worried, Mboane underlined that about 100 infected people are under medical care in disease treatment centres in the district capitals.
