Former president of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, has urged Mozambicans to strictly comply with the authorities’ recommendations for preventing the spread of the new coronavirus.
Chissano says that, given the country’s known weaknesses regarding means to contain outbreaks of this type, Mozambicans must bank on prevention to halt the spread of the disease to the country.
“Since there is no cure, prevention is the best thing. A vaccine is still a long way off, maybe a matter of months, but a long way off. No cases have been reported yet; we are not alarmed in Mozambique, but we have always been cautious, because we know our fragility when it comes to ways to contain outbreaks, to cure or treat. So we have an even greater responsibility to prevent cases from arising in our country,” he said.
