Chinese military arrives for joint exercise with Tanzania, Mozambique

The Chinese military arrived in Tanzania on Wednesday to participate in a joint exercise with counterparts from Tanzania and Mozambique. Chinese Defende Ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang said on Thursday that the drill focuses on counter-terrorism.
“The militaries of China, Tanzania and Mozambique will hold ‘Peace Unity-2024′ joint exercise from late-July to mid-August,” said Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, at a regular press conference on Thursday.
According to the spokesperson, under the theme of joint counter-terrorism military operations, the joint exercise will be carried out both on land and at sea.
The exercise aims to enhance the participating troops’ capabilities in joint counter-terrorism operations, and deepen military mutual trust and practical cooperation. It will be conducive for the three countries to jointly preserve regional peace and stability, noted the spokesperson.
