A company with Chinese capital intends to invest US$15 million (945 million meticais) in heavy sands exploration in Nicadine, Pebane district, in Zambezia.
The company holds the concession on around 9,000 hectares [90 km2] of land and was authorised by the government to exploit 532 hectares [5.32 km2] to extract aluminite and zircon.
The remaining part is reserved for local communities to practise agriculture and other activities.
The potential of the area is estimated at around one million tons of aluminite and 324 tons of zircon.
The figures were presented this Tuesday in the village of Djogoro, Pebane district, at the public consultation meeting on the environmental feasibility study and the terms of reference that will guide the project’s environmental impact assessment.
