A Chinese businessman has been murdered in his shop in Chimoio, central Mozambique, and one of the two suspects in the robbery killed by the police, a security force source has revealed.
“The police are still working on the case. A security guard at the establishment is still on the run,” Manica province police command spokesman Mateus Mindu said.
Chinese businessman Yong Ehen was reportedly murdered at about 10:00 p.m. on Thursday as he was checking the day’s takings.
One witness told Lusa that a supervisor from the private security company protecting the establishment hid inside the facility, allegedly in collusion with the security guard on duty on that day.
The security guard fled when he realised that the supervisor had fatally stabbed the businessman.
“The merchant was already dead when police arrived at the scene,” Mindu said.
The security company supervisor “refused to obey police orders and, because we did not know if he had another weapon besides the knife, was fatally injured by gunfire,” he explained.
