Chinese business people in Nampula province have established an association called the Association of Chinese Traders in Nampula (ACCN) to defend the interests of its members and strengthen their relationship with the provincial government.
Speakers at the association’s official launch, which took place last Sunday in Nampula, said that the association would strengthen relationships with local social, commercial and industrial associations, promote cooperation including bilateral contacts with state institutions, and serve as a bridge between such institutions and Chinese business people.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Victor Borges, the provincial director of work in Nampula said that the creation of the association would be benefit both Chinese business people and the provincial government by acting as a forum for addressing mutual concerns.
“We believe that above all, the association will help the effective interaction between the Chinese commercial community in Nampula and the various government institutions of our province aiming at development,” he said.
Zuang Yan, an attaché at the Chinese Embassy in Mozambique, said that the establishment of the Association of Chinese Merchants in Nampula formed part of the strengthening of historic relations of cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Mozambique, and would promote development for the well-being of the populations by investing in diverse areas of activity.
According to Zuang, there are more than 1,000 Chinese citizens in Nampula working in areas such as fishing, cargo transportation, civil construction, agriculture, mining and logging, and all committed to contributing to growth in the province.
Zuang said that the ACCN, as a new platform to boost Chinese business, would enable them to further explore existing partnerships with their local colleagues, and so expand business in the province.
Chinese business people who took part in the association’s official launch ceremony said they believed it would help in the resolution of commercial disputes, as well as in the dissemination of information on markets and technological matters related to the evolution of Chinese enterprise in Nampula, and encourage investment in the province’s development.
