At the opening of the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation, China simultaneously announced US$74 millions-worth of debt relief for Portuguese-speaking countries and further assistance for priority government projects of up to US$300 million.
The event, at which Mozambique is represented by Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario, started yesterday in Macau, administrative region of the People’s Republic of China.
At the opening, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang said a total of 18 measures would be taken over the next three years to support the productive capacity of the CPLP bloc, including debt write-offs, loans and grants.
Carlos Agostinho do Rosario presented Mozambique’s development agenda and reiterated the government’s intention to increasingly involve the private sector in the development process, encouraging investors from China to intensify their focus on the Mozambican market.
Other Portuguese-speaking countries extended similar invitations.
The meeting, which ends today, provides for the establishment of a Federation of Entrepreneurs from China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
