Mozambique: LAM hires a Boeing 737-500 to relieve pressure

The airport at Chimoio, the provincial capital of Manica, central Mozambique, will be able to accept night flights again runway lighting was repaired, the Mozambican government announced.
The lighting had been out of order for about 10 years until work started in 2018, and repairs are now completed, an official at the Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced. Authorities have already conducted test flights and the airport is now waiting only for the certificate that regulates night-time use.
In a country about two thousand kilometres from north to south, with an area of more than 800,000 square kilometres and lacking an adequate road network, domestic air transport is crucial for linking Mozambique’s 11 provinces.
Three companies operate daily flights within Mozambique: Mozambique Airlines (LAM), Ethiopian Airlines and Fastjet.
