If Maputo Ring Road is supposed to be an alternative route to escape the congestion, the situation this Wednesday proved the contrary. Traffic was interrupted for about two hours by residents of the Albasine neighbourhood, in the Chiango area, who decided to block the road with rubble in protest at the flooding of their homes caused, they claim, by water draining off the Casa Jovem and the Ring Road.
Protesters complain of a lack of intervention by the authorities to solve the problem of the water which, they say, is destroying property and hindering their freedom of movement.
The circulation of traffic was only restored after about two hours when a force of the Protection Police and Municipal Police officers arrived at the scene to disperse the demonstrators and remove the barricades.
