An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale was registered today (Saturday), at 5: 31min: 23 seconds, in the district of Cheringoma, Sofala province.
According to a communiqué from the National Institute of Mines (INAMI) sent to Folha de Maputo, the earthquake was also felt in the neighbouring districts of Gorongosa, Maringue, Caia and Muanza, all located in Sofala province.
So far no loss of human life or material damage have been reported.
However, the National Institute of Mines (INAMI), which is the entity responsible for monitoring seismic activity in Mozambique, is on the ground monitoring the situation.
