Daniel Chapo highlighted “concrete progress” in the lives of Mozambicans in the first 100 days of government, stating that his government had managed to make “omelettes without eggs”, in an allusion to financial limitations.
“We state, loud and clear, that this commitment will not be limited to the first 100 days of government, when we still did not have financial resources, as everyone knows that the budget had not yet been approved, but we managed to make all these omelettes without eggs,” Daniel Chapo said during the presentation of results relating to the first 100 days of government.
According to the head of state, “strategic actions” were implemented in the first 100 days, including investments in infrastructure, public health, and economic, social and political inclusion programs, with at least 92 of the 96 indicators that made up the government’s action plan having been met, according to Chapo.
“We have carried out several other additional actions not included in the impact action plan for the first 100 days of government, and these actions correspond to 10% above what we had projected,” said the President of Mozambique, claiming a “positive impact” on the lives of Mozambicans while admitting challenges.
“Positive changes”
“We have seen ideas become reality and positive changes take shape and strength, we have witnessed things happening. […] Of course there are still challenges, even if we were a developing nation,” added the President of Mozambique.
In his assessment of the first 100 days of government, Daniel Chapo highlighted the signing of the agreement with political parties, the support fund for companies affected by post-election demonstrations in the country, housing projects for young people and the payment of 100% of the 13th salary to pensioners.
Chapo also mentioned that 1,177 surgeries were performed to “reduce waiting lists” in the country’s hospitals, more than 12 million school books were distributed to primary school students and more than one million people affected by extreme weather events during the rainy season were assisted.
“These initiatives reflect concrete advances in the quality of life of our population. Each progress achieved represents an important step in building a promising future for everyone. We are not doing anyone any favours. We are fulfilling our mission with confidence and the responsibility placed on us,” President Chapo said.
The president reiterated that social, political and economic stability remained the “priority of priorities”, calling for the adoption of “bold, assertive, innovative and tangible results” political measures for the good of the Mozambican people in the future.
