CFM to transport 380,000 tonnes of Botswana coal per year – Watch

The 40-wagon freight train transporting 2,000 tons of mineral coal from the Morrupule mines in Botswana, passed through Marracuene after crossing the border in Chicualacuala, Gaza province.
The 1400-kilometre journey, starting in the Palapye region in central Botswana and traversing Zimbabwe, took four days.
This is probably the first coal transport by rail through Mozambique from the Morrupule mines in almost five decades of national independence, and historic for the Mozambican logistics platform CFM.
Mozambique’s Southern Railway System (CFM-Sul] hopes to transport 380,000 tonnes of coal per year from Botswana for export via the Port of Maputo.
According to the Executive Director of CFM-Sul, Augusto Abudo, the initiation of rail transport of Tswana coal is one outcome of talks between the presidents of Mozambique and Botswana.
The Tswanas want to use the Mozambican rail-port system for the export of mineral coal, with volumes of 32,000 tons per month in prospect.
