A seminar on the best ways of conducting scientific research in Mozambique will mark the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Centre for African Studies (CEA) at the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) in Maputo.
The event will be held on March 8 and 9 at the UEM Education School and will reflect on the CEA’s strategy for the next 10 years, the role of centres for African studies in researching the history of Africa and how social science research institutions in Africa are funded.
With the title “Paradigms of Knowledge Production, Challenges in the Relationship with the State and Opportunities for a Repositioning of the CEA”, the seminar is expecting over 100 participants, including national and foreign researchers and representatives of national and international non-governmental organizations.
Parallel activities include the reissue of “The Mozambican Miner”, a study on migrant labour by researcher Ruth First with photos by Moira Forjaz and interviews by Alpheus Manghezi.
In the same vein, a course on scientific research methodologies will be given by Congolese Professor Jacques Depelchin on March 10 and 11, and a tribute to the professionals who contributed to the growth of the CEA held.
Founded in 1976, the Centre for African Studies (CEA) is part of the Eduardo Mondlane University whose main aim is to promote research in the social sciences and humanities through individual and joint projects, and conduct educational extension activities.
