A total 3,265 census officers will conduct the Fourth General Census of Population and Housing in Maputo city, National Statistics Institute delegate for Maputo, Evaristo Manhique, told the Census Coordinating Council in Maputo yesterday.
The census takers will be distributed across the city’s seven municipal districts, KaMavotahaving the highest number with a total of 981 agents, followed by KaMubukwana (898) and KaNyaka (21).
Manhique explained that this census would be different from the previous three, since the method used would allow the results to be released at the end of the year.
“We are doing everything we can to make this census the best in terms of veracity and flexibility in data collection,” he said.
The governor of Maputo City, Iolanda Cintura, took the opportunity to hand over six vehicles, calling on the district delegates to use them exclusively for census work in a responsible, since the country was not enjoying good times financially.
“Let all citizens show responsibility and zeal in ensuring their commitment to collaborate in the process of the General Census of Population and Housing,” Cintura said.
In Maputo City, the census of population and housing will cost 19 million meticais.
