Mozambique: Locals invade Chongoene port terminal, expel managers - O País
The guard at a cars-for-sale lot on Avenida Angola in Maputo was killed at dawn on Tuesday by criminals who made off with four batteries and a stereo.
The murder is presumed to have occurred at dawn. To gain access to the interior of the facility, the criminals climbed the wall, as according to witnesses there was no sign of break-in.
The body had already been removed by a National Criminal Investigation Service team by the time @Verdade arrived on the scene.
Armindo Muhai, a resident nearby, said the man was found dead at around 4:00 a.m. in an improvised shelter where he always slept. His arms and legs were bound and he was gagged before being killed.
This is the second time that the car park has been hit in three months. On the previous occasion, thieves stole a car and a stereo.
In a separate case, four individuals have been detained in Maputo province accused of stealing a car in the Guava neighbourhood, and are being held at the police station in Marracuene.
The defendants allegedly scaled the wall of a house in Guava at dawn on May 1, physically assaulting the owner and seizing the vehicle, which they then tried to sell to a plain clothes policeman for 40,000 meticais, the corporation reports.
