Mozambique: Maputo hosts Africa Diplomatic Tourism and Investment Forum

Concern and indignation were in plentiful supply at Maputo International Airport yesterday, as the cancellation of three domestic flights to Beira, Quelimane and Nacala left hundreds of passengers grounded.
“It’s been three hours since I checked in, but so far nothing has arrived or departed,” Kevin Carter, who had his trip to Pemba cancelled, said.
Some of those affected had been waiting since Friday and found the scenario repeated yesterday. One lady told O País that the company had not so far made any statements about the matter.
“I bought my ticket when I was still in Portugal, arrived in Maputo and was surprised by the delay of my flight to Beira. This has gone on for four days now,” one customer told O País.
Another customer, speak anonymously, told O País that this was not the first time she had been forced to reschedule her agenda due to problems with LAM. “I’ve been here more than ten hours, it’s very annoying,” another passenger added.
Mozambican Airlines (LAM) cites operational issues as the cause of the delays, and issued a statement to that effect.
“Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique, S.A., informs the public that due to the need to provide unscheduled technical assistance to two aircraft in its fleet, it has had to reschedule and in some cases cancel flights on February 5 and 6, 2017.”
Some of the passengers with flights scheduled for Monday, if not all of them, have been accommodated in hotels.
