In an attempt to end the proliferation of fake healers, the Mozambican Association of Traditional Doctors of Mozambique (AMETRAMO) is launching a campaign to identify those who genuinely practice traditional medicine and ban misleading advertising in leaflets, O Pais reports.
Media announcing miracles and cures for all manner of diseases have their days numbered in Maputo because, the report reads, AMETRAMO intends to impose some discipline on the activity and end the reign of the so-called “charlatans”.
According to this association, many healers, including members, have been violating the association’s ethics and statutes. Inspections will be carried out by neighbourhood initially, with the collaboration of block chiefs and neighbourhood secretaries.
The Association of Traditional Doctors of Mozambique has approximately 75,000 registered members and practitioners across the country.
The campaign will also target foreigners who work outside the association and entice patients with misleading advertisements.
