Everything is going in the best way for the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to run smoothly a few days before the final draw set to take place on Friday, 16 September 2022 in Maputo, Mozambique.
Engineers, construction technicians, hotel and transport staff are working hard so that AFCON, the first to be held in Mozambican territory, will be a success.
The work began since April 8, and much of the attention of the government, businessmen and sports agents is now focused on the progress, with particular focus on the construction of Vilanculos Arena, with capacity for 1200 spectators, where the players will demonstrate their talent.
A delegation from CAF is currently in the city of Vilanculos to assess the progress in the construction of the Vilanculos Arena.
It will be the last visit that the multidisciplinary group of inspectors will pay at the venue before the tournament kick-offs.
On site, the delegation will check the quality of the soil of the main arena, the training fields, visit the changing rooms and other areas considered essential for the competition to take place.
The inspectors will also make a final survey on logistics, visiting the hotels that will host the teams, referees, CAF officials, and also make a final “test” of the capacity of the transport system.
This will be the third visit of the “CAF” to Vilanculos, after having been in late May and June.
When the President of the Vilanculos City Council, William Tunzine, visited the area where the Arena and other adjacent infrastructures will be built, he noted that the works are progressing at a good pace.
Tunzine said that the playing fields, training fields and changing rooms were in good condition, as recommended by CAF as being essential for the holding of the AFCON. It should be noted that in the changing room area a space for disabled people was provided, in addition to those for teams, referees, spectators and VIPs.
William Tunzine added that the level of execution of the works is around 80 per cent and what remains to be done will be completed by the middle of this month.
“As I mentioned what CAF asked for was for the fields and changing rooms to be ready. Once these works are concluded we will move on to the equipping of the car park that will be divided into three zones, namely VIP, teams and public, and also the construction of shops and lighting.
The Mayor of Vilanculos expressed his satisfaction for the fact that the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) has already paid half of the value of the reserves, which makes him reassured not only the Government, but also the partners that gained more incentive to invest in the event, and said “at first I felt that the business community was shy, they were not committed to the cause that is not only of the Government, but of all Mozambicans.
Now we notice that they see the event is really going to happen and there is a need to support and have their brands displayed in the venue. Everywhere in the world it is like this, local and national businesses get involved in these events. The fact that the Mozambican Football Federation has already invested in the accommodation for the delegations is a demonstration that everything is aligned for the event to take place and be a success”, he noted.
