One month after the terrorist attacks in Mazeze administrative post, Chiúre District, where terrorists set fire to the hospital, the administrative secretariat and the residence of the head of the administrative post, among other government and private infrastructures, the area’s displaced residents are beginning to return home.
The head of Mazeze Administrative Post, Daniela Tunia this Tuesday described the community’s return to their areas of origin as currently “timid”.
“Some people are returning, as it is neither mandatory nor prohibited. The government can do neither, so both things are voluntary. If you ban the return, what will happen? The person dying from hunger says that you are prohibiting it, because at home I have my corn, beans and peanuts that are already ready. If they refuse to return voluntarily, then they will have to cope with what little the government will give them. We still don’t have any basic services there, because the two centres, as I said, were burned and vandalised, there is nothing, the population is just returning alone,” Tunia said, speaking exclusively to Zumbo FM Noticias.
Tunia also said that there was no short-term plan for the resumption of normal government services.
