Mozambican population may reach 60 million in the next three decades - AIM

A total of 31,576 people displaced by terrorist actions in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, received new identity cards between September 2021 and February 2023.
The information was released in Maputo on Friday (31-03) by the spokeswoman for the National Directorate of Civil Identification (DNIC), Gilda Lameque, who said that the milestone had been achieved by a partnership between the DNIC and other organizations.
“As part of our institution’s partnership with the Catholic University of Mozambique (UCM) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UN-OPS) and in line with the Cabo Delgado reconstruction project, which began in September 2021, a total of 31,576 citizens displaced by terrorist actions in that part of the country had their identity card reissued,” he said.
Lameque detailed DNIC activities during February, during which 112,299 requests for identity cards were submitted, against 96,956 in February 2022 .
In February of this year, 176,333 ID cards were produced, against 132,406 last year.
Of the 112,299 applications submitted in February, the city of Maputo predominated with 21,369 requests, 19% of the total.
Niassa province, in the north of the country and its largest province, recorded the lowest number of requests (3,530).
Figures point to around 850,000 people having been displaced since the beginning of terrorist actions in Cabo Delgado at the end of 2017.
