Residents of the village of Quelimane, Camalinga, in Mocimboa da Praia district, Cabo Delgado province, have experienced another horrific incident at the hands of the group that has been terrorising northern parts of the province for almost two years.
According to ‘Carta de Moçambique’, on the afternoon of Tuesday (27 August), a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to a local businessman known as John Loca was attacked by the insurgents, and he and a friend travelling with him were beheaded. Sources say the victims were ambushed by volleys of gunfire from both sides of the road.
Sources in the district also report that a community leader was beheaded in Uló village last Monday. The victim, ‘Carta’ has learned, was killed while on his way to get food.
In another development, military sources say that Aly Nuro, a successful young Mocímboa da Praia-born businessman, was arrested by police last Saturday on suspicion of being linked to the insurgents.
